How To Care For Your Skin During Pregnancy

Natural ways to take care of your skin during pregnancy without using chemicals

Skincare is essential while you are pregnant for a variety of reasons. Your hormone levels are fluctuating, and it can be harder to keep your skin clean and clear. However, staying on top of your skin care routine can help. Here is what to do to care for your skin during your pregnancy.

The first step of every good skin care routine starts with proper cleansing. This is especially important when you are on the hormonal rollercoaster ride that is pregnancy. Rid your clogged pores of oil, dirt, and make-up.

As a side note, make sure you are only cleansing a maximum of twice a day, as you don’t want to strip the skin of its natural oils completely!

Avoid Toxic Ingredients

As a sugaring practitioner, one of our passions is using only natural ingredients. When making choices on skin care products, shampoos, conditioners, sunscreens, or anything else you put on your body, try to limit the ingredients to only natural, organic products.

Use a Body Oil

To minimise potential stretch marks, it is worthwhile to keep your skin well moisturised. Using a body oil is a great way to help your skin stretch and reduce the appearance of stretch marks. When applying, focus on areas of the skin such as your hips, breasts, thighs, and stomach.

Keep Hydrated

There are many everyday reasons you need to stay hydrated, but when you’re pregnant, there are even more. For one, your circulatory system is supporting two people instead of one. Your body will ensure the baby is getting well-hydrated and will leave you with what is left. Help yourself by making sure you’ve drank enough for both of you!

Additionally, being well-hydrated helps your skin retain elasticity, which prevents stretch marks from forming. Remaining hydrated will also help you keep your plump, glowing complexion.

Avoid Acne Medications

It’s a little ironic that you are more likely to have breakouts during the time that you aren’t allowed to use acne medications, but that’s how it is! Many acne medications can be harmful to the baby, so avoid using them. If you are desperate, talk to your doctor.

They may be able to make a recommendation for an acne medication that isn’t harmful to the baby.

Use Sun Protection

During pregnancy, your skin will be extra sensitive to the sun. At the same time, it is best not to use chemical sunscreens while pregnant. The best way to avoid sun damage is to try to avoid it when possible.

If going outside, try to cover up, a large brimmed hat is a great way to go. If you need to use sunscreen, look for a pregnancy-friendly zinc oxide sunscreen.

Have a Good Facial Routine

While pregnant, as during any other time, it is crucial to keep up a good facial routine. As we always recommend to our clients, it is recommended to use an organic, all-natural skincare range

Though it is always essential to watch what you are putting in your body, it is especially so when your baby is developing.

The chemicals we are bombarded with daily can be unavoidable, so try to stick to natural choices when you can!
