Navigating the world of skincare can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to choosing the right cleanser. A crucial step in any skincare routine, the right cleanser can transform your skin’s health, appearance, and overall feel.
In this comprehensive guide, we’ll explore how to select the perfect cleanser for your skin type.
As consumers become increasingly discerning about the ingredients in their skincare regimen, the question arises: Are natural skincare products a healthier and safer alternative to their synthetic counterparts?
Natural skincare products, derived from the earth's bounty, encompass ingredients like plant extracts, essential oils, and minerals.
These components are celebrated for their purity and minimal processing, ensuring that the skin receives the wholesome benefits of each ingredient in its most natural form.
The philosophy behind natural skincare is rooted in harmony and balance. Natural ingredients are inherently compatible with our skin, often resulting in fewer instances of irritation and allergic reactions.
This gentle approach makes natural skincare particularly appealing for those with sensitive or reactive skin types.
Amid growing concerns over the potential health impacts of synthetic chemicals found in some skincare products, natural skincare stands out as a safer alternative. Free from parabens, sulphates, synthetic dyes, and artificial fragrances, natural skincare products offer peace of mind to health-conscious consumers seeking purity in their skincare choices.
Natural skincare is not just about avoiding harm; it's also about actively nourishing the skin. Ingredients such as aloe vera, shea butter, and botanical extracts are packed with vitamins, antioxidants, and healing properties that support skin health, offering a holistic approach to beauty.
Choosing natural skincare is also a vote for the environment. With eco-friendly sourcing and biodegradable ingredients, natural skincare products reflect a commitment to sustainability, reducing the ecological footprint of our beauty routines.
In the quest for safer skincare, natural products lead the way. The absence of harsh chemicals reduces the risk of adverse reactions, making natural skincare a preferred choice for those seeking gentle yet effective solutions for their skin.
While the debate between natural and synthetic skincare continues, the benefits of natural skincare are compelling. From their synergistic relationship with our skin to their environmental benefits and safety profile, natural skincare products offer a holistic approach to beauty that aligns with the values of health, wellness, and sustainability.
In the journey towards healthier skincare, natural products stand out as a testament to the power of nature.
They not only offer a safer alternative but also embrace the principles of nourishment, balance, and respect for the earth.
As we become more conscious of the choices we make for our skin and our planet, natural skincare emerges not just as a trend, but as a mindful lifestyle choice.
Merindah Botanicals offers a holistic skincare range that goes beyond surface-level beauty, focusing on deep nourishment for the body, mind, and soul.

]]>If you're curious about these unique sponges and how they can transform your skin, you've come to the right place.
In this comprehensive guide, we'll delve into the benefits, usage tips, and the wonders of Konjac sponges, revealing why they've become a beloved secret weapon for achieving a healthy and radiant complexion.
Get ready to embrace the goodness of these natural sponges for healthy and radiant skin.
Konjac sponges are made from the root of the Konjac plant, scientifically known as Amorphophallus konjac. The plant's root contains a natural fibre called konjac glucomannan, which is rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
This unique composition gives the sponge its soft and gentle texture. Konjac sponges are 100% natural, vegan-friendly, and free from artificial additives or colours.
Absolutely! Konjac sponges have gained popularity for good reason. Their unique composition and properties make them an excellent choice for skincare enthusiasts.
Konjac sponges offer gentle exfoliation, effectively removing impurities and revealing a smoother complexion.
They are also highly absorbent, allowing for better cleansing and product absorption. Moreover, Konjac sponges are environmentally friendly, biodegradable, and free from harsh chemicals, making them a good choice for those seeking natural skincare solutions.
Konjac sponges are a fantastic addition to your skincare routine. They offer gentle exfoliation, deep cleansing, and promote a healthy complexion.
Their soft and sponge-like texture makes them suitable for all skin types, even for those with sensitive skin.
Konjac sponges work to remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and leave your skin feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
1. Gentle Exfoliation:
Konjac sponges provide a gentle exfoliation experience, helping to remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and reveal a fresh and renewed complexion. Their soft and sponge-like texture ensures a non-abrasive exfoliation, making them suitable for even the most sensitive skin types.
2. Deep Cleansing:
Konjac sponges have remarkable cleansing properties, effectively removing dirt, oil, and impurities from the skin. The sponge's unique texture creates a rich lather when combined with water or your favourite cleanser, ensuring a thorough and invigorating cleansing experience.
3. Hydration Boost:
Unlike traditional exfoliators, Konjac sponges don't strip the skin of its natural moisture. Instead, they help to retain moisture, leaving your skin feeling hydrated, plump, and supple.
This makes them an ideal choice for those with dry or dehydrated skin.
Using a Konjac sponge is incredibly easy and fits seamlessly into your skincare routine.
Here's a step-by-step guide:
1. Wet the sponge: Before use, soak the Konjac sponge in warm water until it softens and expands.
2. Gently cleanse: Once softened, squeeze out any excess water and apply a small amount of your favourite cleanser directly to the sponge or onto your face. Gently massage the sponge in circular motions across your face, avoiding the eye area.
3. Rinse and dry: After cleansing, rinse your face thoroughly with water to remove any remaining cleanser. Squeeze out any excess water from the sponge and hang it in a well-ventilated area to dry.
Avoid leaving the sponge in damp or humid environments to prevent bacterial growth.
With proper care, a Konjac sponge can last between two to three months. It's important to replace the sponge once it starts to deteriorate or show signs of wear and tear.
Absolutely! Konjac sponges can be used in conjunction with your favourite cleansers. They enhance the effectiveness of these products by ensuring better absorption into the skin.
One of the great things about Konjac sponges is that they can be used alone or in combination with a cleanser, depending on your preference and skincare needs.
The sponge itself provides gentle exfoliation and cleansing properties, making it effective in removing dirt, oil, and impurities from the skin.
Embrace the wonders of Konjac sponges and unlock the secret to a healthier and more radiant complexion.
With their gentle exfoliation, deep cleansing, and hydration-boosting properties, these sponges have become a game-changer in the world of skincare.
Incorporate our Purifying Konjac Sponge into your daily routine and experience the transformative benefits they offer.
Say hello to smoother, brighter, and rejuvenated skin!
]]>It may sound cliché to say that changing your wardrobe isn't the only thing you need do in the winter, but that doesn't make it any less true.
During winter, the decrease in temperature and humidity levels can have a significant impact on our skin.
The cold, harsh air coupled with indoor heating systems can cause moisture loss, leading to dryness and flakiness.
Additionally, frequent hot showers and baths can further strip away the skin's natural oils, exacerbating the problem. The lack of moisture in the air also hampers the skin's ability to retain hydration.
To combat dry winter skin, it is essential to hydrate and moisturise regularly, use gentle cleansers, avoid hot water, and protect your skin from the elements with appropriate skincare products and protective clothing.
Skin sensitivity, redness, and irritation can all be triggered by these natural elements.
First of all, you don't need to start planning a complete overhaul just yet because all you could need are a few simple changes and additions.
Start by observing how your skin changes over time and alter or replace items as needed.
Many women complain about dry skin in the winter, but if you have naturally dry skin, winter can be particularly drying.
Dry skin produces less natural oil or moisture, which, when combined with the dry winter air, can make your skin feel even worse.
Stick to natural and gentle cleansers, as foam-based cleansers can cause your skin to become even more dry.
If you have dry skin, avoid using harsh exfoliants because it can irritate your skin and switch to a gentler alternative like our Purifying Konjac Sponge.
The benefits of exfoliation, when done correctly, are well known. Gentle exfoliation can help remove dead skin cells attained from the dry winter air, leaving your skin looking more luminous and aiding the absorption of your post-cleansing moisturiser.
Avoid extra hot showers in winter
Tempting as it is to have a very long and very hot shower in winter it’s best to reduce the length and temperature of your shower.
Prolonged contact with hot water will strip the skin of its natural moisture, leaving you even drier.
Take no more than one lukewarm shower every day.
Apply a nutrient-rich hydrating body lotion as soon as you get out of the shower, when your skin is still damp, to seal in hydration.
You should use enough to leave your skin feeling moisturised and with Merindah Botanicals Pampering Body Lotion you won’t need to re-apply it between showers.
Dry brushing, a ritual that involves massaging your skin with a brush or exfoliating mitt in a soft, circular motion, can help if your skin is flaking more than usual.
The mechanical action can help exfoliate dry winter skin while also encouraging lymphatic drainage. It's also a fantastic self-massage.
Lip balms aren't the only thing that help you keep your lips hydrated.
You've probably already stocked up on lip balms to treat your chapped lips, but if you have extra dry lips you may need to up your lip care game to cure dry lips.
To remove dead skin cells, gently exfoliate your lips using an organic or natural scrub like our multi-award winning Invigorating Body Scrub.
Exfoliation will also aid in the effective penetration of the lip balm through the lips.
Not to compare skincare to clothing, but it's the most appropriate analogy here.
Consider your skincare routine as outerwear for your skin: in the same way that you need to layer your clothing to be warm in the winter, you need to layer your skin to avoid overdrying in winter.
Layering allows you to address numerous skin issues at the same time with various solutions. If you're looking for a quick explainer on how to layer skincare, a decent rule of thumb is to start with the lightest and work your way up (i.e. serum or facial oil first then moisturiser).
We love layering our skin care products! Start by applying our Nurturing Rosehip Oil first before you follow with our Luxurious Face Cream for the ultimate winter skin hydration.
We don't need an excuse to put on a face mask, but if you haven't yet, winter is the perfect time to get started.
Merindah Botanicals Instant Glow Face Mask is designed to boost your skin hydration.
And evenings are the perfect time to apply face masks because skin hydration levels begin to fall in the afternoon and continue throughout the night, therefore evening masking is incredibly beneficial in keeping the skin hydrated.
Note: This is also a great opportunity to incorporate more targeted treatments to your skin. For example, those with eczema may benefit from ingredients like aloe, while those seeking anti-ageing benefits may choose a face mask infused with hyaluronic acid or Paracress - a natural alternative to Botox.
And if you're sleeping in a room with a lot of dry heat, use a bedside humidifier.
Winter can be tough on our skin. Between the cold weather and dry indoor air, our skin takes a beating.
But as you can see, with just a few simple tips and tweaks to your skincare routine, it’s easy to have gorgeously radiant skin all winter long.
So, what does your skincare routine look like in winter? Are you using any of the techniques we shared today? If not, make sure to give them a try – your skin will thank you for it!

It helps to protect the skin from damage, hydrate it, and prepare it for the day ahead.
However, with so many products on the market, it can be difficult to know what to include in your routine.
CLEANSING & EXFOLIATING
Give your skin a refreshing wake-up call by incorporating the cleansing and exfoliating steps into your morning skincare routine. Start by soaking our Purifying Konjac Sponge in warm water.
The konjac sponge gently exfoliates and removes dead skin cells, oil, and impurities, leaving your skin refreshed and rejuvenated.
Add a small amount of our Uplifting Cleanser to the sponge. It's a power combination that effectively cleanses your skin, providing a balanced base for the rest of your skincare routine.
By combining exfoliating and cleansing, you can simplify your routine and achieve a clean and radiant complexion.
TONING
Don't underestimate the importance of toning in your morning skincare routine.
Our Calming Toner is a game-changer that often goes unnoticed. It plays a crucial role in balancing your skin's pH levels while providing essential hydration.
Unlike harsh toners that strip your skin, our Calming Toner soothes and moisturizes, ensuring your skin is ready to absorb the next skincare products.

It replenishes moisture, restores radiance, and improves the overall texture of your skin.A morning skin care routine is a simple but effective way to keep your skin looking healthy and glowing.

Remember, consistency is key when it comes to skin care, so be sure to stick to your routine every day for best results.
Need a reminder? Download your morning skincare routine for later.
There is NO miracle facial, BUT there are miraculous results with a regular skincare routine.
The key to skincare success is consistency, patience, and understanding which skincare ingredients work best together and the order they should be applied on your skin.
Learning how to layer skin care products will help you get glowing, healthy skin.
There is a definite order to applying skincare products to maximise their benefits.
After washing your face, start with the lightest products and end with the heaviest products.
Spot treatment, toner and serum should always be applied before moisturisers, face oils and lotions.
Anything water-based will penetrate into your skin easier without any heavier products getting in the way.
Concentrated treatments like Retinol or prescription topical treatments should be applied at night time only since for the most part, they can cause sun sensitivity.
Always put lotions, moisturisers, face oils, night creams and sun protection on last.
It’s important to consider the purpose of your products – why you’re using them in the first place – and which layers of the skin they affect to get maximum benefits.
Let's take a look at a cross section diagram of the skin.
The outer layer of the skin, the epidermis or skin surface is made up of layers of dead skin cells tightly packed like roof tiles, which are constantly shedding, this is the visible layer.
The deeper layers of the epidermis is where new skin cells are formed and this is where our targeted active ingredients and treatments are formulated to penetrate down into.
Products that affect the skin surface are:
Cleansers, Exfoliators/mechanical scrubs, Toners, Eye Creams, Moisturisers (Day Cream & Night Creams), Sunscreen
Products that affect the deeper layers of the skin where the new skin cells are formed:
AHA’S/ chemical exfoliation Retinols Vitamin C Masks Spot Treatments
Now let's look at what each of the above products actually do.
Products that affect the outer layer of the skin:
Cleansers
Cleansing should always be your first step in your routine both morning and night. Morning cleansing is important as your skin regenerates overnight, it will produce toxins, dead skin cells, sweat and excess oil.
Your evening cleanse will remove makeup, dirt, grime, pollution, dead skin cells and sweat that accumulates and sticks to the surface of the skin throughout the day.
Toner
Toner is an important second step to your layering, as a good toner should contain antioxidants to fight against environmental damage and restore the natural PH of the skin after cleansing.
It also refines open pores and prepares your skin for your concentrated treatments.
Exfoliator
Exfoliation is the removal of dry/dead skin cells on the surface of the skin and is one of the most important aspects of your home skin care routine.
Exfoliation helps many skin problems but it also increases blood circulation, which in turn helps to achieve healthy and glowing skin. It also stimulates cellular turnover which then stimulates collagen production to slow down the ageing process.
It’s important to remove dead skin but you need to be careful as not to strip away too many of your natural oils. I recommend exfoliating 2 to 3 times a week as part of a good skincare routine.
Moisturiser/Day Cream/SPF
Moisturisers are designed to sit on the outer surface of the skin as a protective layer to lock in hydration and prevent moisture loss. I prefer a moisturiser with a broad spectrum SPF, but this is a personal choice.
If you choose a moisturiser without SPF then your last skin care product to layer in the morning is a broad spectrum sunscreen before your make-up.
Eye Cream
The skin around the eyes is fine and delicate and one of the first areas to show signs of aging. That is why it's important to use a product specifically designed for this area. An eye cream should be applied both morning and night.
Night Cream
It’s not called “Beauty Sleep” for nothing. At night while we sleep our body is regenerating. A night cream is like a ‘Super Food’ for the cells, packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to nourish and replenish the skin while we sleep.
Let’s now look at the products that penetrate deeper into the epidermis. These are your specific Treatment products such as serums, masks and spot treatments targeted to correct skin conditions such as aging, pigmentation, sun damage, dehydration, sensitivity and acne.
AHA’s (Alpha Hydroxy Acids)
Remember those outer dead skin cells that are tightly packed like roof tiles? As we get older this layer thickens resulting in dull, lacklustre looking skin. Fine lines begin to appear, pigmentation and dry flaky patches resulting in an uneven skin tone.
Dead skin cells are held together by a 'glue' substance. Mechanical exfoliants remove the superficial dead skin cells while AHA's dissolve the 'glue' substance and release the dead skin cells, resulting in a deeper exfoliation.
This speeds up cellular turnover and stimulates collagen production.
So it is a must if you are looking at slowing down or reversing the signs of ageing, sun damage and pigmentation. Concentrated AHA’s can be found in serums and masks.
Retinols (Vitamin A)
Retinol is one of the most popular active ingredients on the market and is known for cell renewal, as it can assist with reducing wrinkles and sun damage. It's the most effective substance for the care of ageing and UV damaged skin.
Retinols should only be applied as a night treatment as Vitamin A is photosensitive and it’s important to wear a broad spectrum sunscreen during the day. Retinols are usually found in a concentrated serum form.
Vitamin C
The antioxidant properties of vitamin C and its role in collagen synthesis make vitamin C a vital molecule for skin health as it protects your skin from the effects of ageing.
Vitamin C is not only necessary for collagen production and maintenance, but it is also a potent antioxidant that can neutralise free radicals in the skin. Vitamin C usually comes in the form of a concentrated serum.
Masks
A face mask is intended to treat your particular skin condition so it's important to choose the right one... Depending on their ingredients, masks can tighten and tone, hydrate, nourish, draw out impurities, help blemishes heal, calm and soothe, and rejuvenate the skin.
A mask can be applied weekly after cleansing and exfoliating. Then follow with toner, serum, day cream/night cream.
NOTE: Some masks are formulated as an overnight treatment and usually there is no need to apply a night cream over the top.
Spot Treatment
The best way to apply a spot treatment is after cleansing and toning without any other product on you skin as it works best at maximum strength and undiluted and it can penetrate deep down into the pores to kill acne causing bacteria.
There’s no other oils, gels, or lotions on your face creating layers that keep your skin from getting the maximum effect of the spot treatment. The longer you can wait to apply the rest of your products, the better.
In Conclusion
Most effective skin care ranges are designed to work synergistically, and I have always advised my clients to stick to one complete range at a time. Using bits and pieces from different ranges may have an adverse affect on your skin as getting the balance of active ingredient just right will give you maximum benefits and results.
And remember it takes at least 30 days for new skin cells to reach the surface of the skin and to see true results. So patience and consistency is the key.

]]>Lipstick is one of the most popular beauty items and many women, even those who do not use makeup on a regular basis, confess to owning at least one. But most of them contain dangerous chemicals.
In 2010, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration conducted a test which detected lead in all 400 lipsticks tested, ranging from 0.9 to 3.06 ppm – which was four times higher than the levels observed in a study done by Campaign for Safe Cosmetics in 2007.
Average lipstick or lip gloss use exceeds daily intake guidelines for aluminium, cadmium, chromium and manganese. In some of the products tested, daily use meant that a woman would exceed chromium intake recommendations by 100 percent.
Heavy metals do not show up on ingredient labels but are found in a wide range of lipsticks - everything from affordable to high-end, luxury brands.
Lead
No cosmetic company is going to list lead as one of the ingredients in their lipstick. However, many brands have been found to contain traces of lead which is a neurotoxin that causes learning and behavioural problems in users, hormonal and menstrual irregularities and delayed onset of puberty in teenagers.
Chromium
Chromium is a heavy metal that is extremely dangerous especially when inhaled or ingested over a long period of time. It has been linked to lung cancer, reduced immunity, neurodegenerative diseases and premature senility.
While it only occurs in small amounts in lipsticks, if applied regularly for a long time, it will eventually have a negative effect on the health of the user.
Manganese
The body is able to expel extra amounts of manganese but constant exposure can lead to brain injury, learning disabilities and behavioural changes.
Cadmium
Cadmium is also found in batteries, platings, cigarettes and metal coatings. It is a human carcinogen and has been linked to bone and kidney dysfunction.
Heavy metals do accumulate in the body over time and even low amounts can add up to big effects.
And unfortunately, there are no laws restricting the use of lipsticks and it is up to consumers to take the necessary precautions. So what can you do to protect yourself from heavy metal exposure from lip products?
Do you use lipstick or lip gloss? Which brands do you use and what do you think about lipstick now after reading this article?

]]>As busy women, finding time to take care of ourselves can be a challenge, but prioritising our skincare routine can make a big difference.
That's why I've developed a 5 minute morning skincare routine that's perfect for busy women who want to look and feel their best without sacrificing precious time.
Step 1: Cleansing with a Konjac Sponge
I like to start my morning skincare routine by combining two steps into one so I use my uplifting cleanser together with a Konjac sponge to cleanse and exfoliate my face in one step.
This little sponge is amazing because it can cut two steps into one! It gently exfoliates my skin while also removing dirt and impurities.
Plus, it's made from natural materials, so I know I'm not exposing my skin to any harmful chemicals.
To use a Konjac sponge, simply wet it with warm water until it softens, then squeeze out any excess water and add a small amount of cleanser to the sponge.
Gently massage the sponge over your face in circular motions, focusing on areas where you tend to get oily or have clogged pores. Rinse the sponge with warm water and hang it up to dry.
Step 2: Toning
After cleansing, I tone my skin with a natural toner. This helps to remove any remaining impurities and balance my skin's pH levels. My favourite toner is made with witch hazel, which is known for its ability to tighten and firm skin. It's also alcohol-free, so it doesn't dry out my skin like other toners can.
To use the toner, simply apply a small amount to a cotton pad and swipe it over your face, avoiding the eye area. I like to focus on my T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) since that's where I tend to get oily.
Step 3: Moisturising
The final step in my 5-minute morning skincare routine is moisturising. This is important to keep my skin hydrated and protected throughout the day.
I like to use a natural moisturiser that's lightweight and absorbs quickly, so it doesn't leave a greasy residue.
My go-to moisturiser is made with all-natural ingredients like jojoba oil and rosehip butter. It's gentle enough for sensitive skin but also effective at hydrating and nourishing my skin.
To use the moisturiser, simply apply a small amount to your face and neck, using gentle upward motions.
Now that I've shared my basic skin care routine with you, I have to tell you about the Go to Glow Set. It includes all the products I just mentioned - a gentle cleanser, Konjac sponge, natural toner, and natural moisturiser - so you can simplify your routine and get great results.

Facial massage can help to improve circulation, increase collagen production and reduce wrinkles.
Cupping is an ancient Chinese medicine (TCM) technique that involves suctioning the skin away from the rest of the body in order to encourage the flow of qi (routinely applied on the back and legs as a way to decrease inflammation, rejuvenate fatigued muscles, and alleviate aches).
As you might expect, facial cupping follows the same rhythm—simply it's focused on your face.
Facial cupping can help to improve circulation and promote cell turnover.
Cupping is a form of alternative medicine in which suction cups are used to stimulate the skin and muscles. It can be applied to your face or your entire body.
Facial cups are smaller and softer than body cups. They’re used to gently pull the skin away from the deeper layers of fascia to increase blood flow to the area and rejuvenate the skin without leaving marks behind.
Body cups are bigger and primarily used to alleviate aches and pains but are also used to assist with belly fat and cellulite!
Cupping the face is intended to enhance blood circulation and stimulate the facial cells that produce collagen.
As a result, by reducing puffiness, you can lighten your complexion, lessen the appearance of scars, fine lines, and wrinkles, and tone your chin, jawline, and neck.
Gua sha is a natural alternative therapy in which your skin is scraped with a massage implement to enhance circulation. This traditional Chinese therapeutic technique provides great skin and health benefits.
A Gua sha is a smooth-edged massage tool that scrapes your skin with short or long strokes to enhance blood flow by stimulating microcirculation of the soft tissue.
Gua sha can help to improve the appearance of the skin by reducing inflammation and increasing lymphatic drainage.
When used together, these beauty tools can provide an incredible boost to the health and appearance of your skin.

So why does dry skin occur and is there really a body moisturiser for dry skin?
There many many reasons dry skin can occur, allergies, change in season, skin conditions, diet or poor skincare routine due to lack of time and understanding.
Skin becomes dry when it loses water too quickly, which can occur due to various reasons.
Common reasons for dry skin such as using deodorant, soaps and harsh cleaning products can strip the natural oils and fats from our skin, while taking long, hot showers can exacerbate skin dryness.
Living in cold and dry climates can also lead to dry skin. To heal dry skin, it is important to make changes such as moisturising multiple times a day.
However, if the skin is unable to retain moisture and heal itself, it can become excessively dry.
In addition, age, certain medications, and certain diseases can also contribute to excessively dry skin.

This nourishing oil is derived from the seeds of the rose plant, and it is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and essential fatty acids that offer a variety of benefits for the skin.
In this article, we will explore rosehip oil skin benefits and how you can incorporate it into your skincare routine.
One of the most significant benefits of rosehip oil is its high antioxidant content.
Antioxidants are essential for protecting the skin against the damaging effects of free radicals.
Free radicals are unstable molecules that can cause oxidative stress, leading to premature aging, fine lines, and wrinkles. The antioxidants in rosehip oil, including vitamins C and E, help to neutralise free radicals, protecting the skin against damage and keeping it looking healthy and youthful.
Rosehip oil is also rich in essential fatty acids, including linoleic and linolenic acid. These fatty acids are crucial for maintaining a healthy skin barrier, which helps to lock in moisture and prevent dehydration.
When the skin is dehydrated, it can appear dull and lifeless, and fine lines and wrinkles can become more visible. By hydrating the skin with rosehip oil, you can improve its overall texture and restore a healthy, youthful glow.
Rosehip oil also has soothing properties that make it an excellent choice for sensitive, dry, or irritated skin. The oil contains a variety of vitamins and minerals that help to calm inflammation and reduce redness, leaving the skin looking and feeling more comfortable.
If you suffer from skin conditions such as rosacea, eczema, or psoriasis, rosehip oil can help to alleviate symptoms and improve the overall health of your skin.
Rosehip oil is also beneficial for improving the overall texture and appearance of the skin. The oil is quickly absorbed by the skin, leaving it feeling soft and smooth.
It can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by promoting cell turnover and boosting collagen production.
Regular use of rosehip oil can help to improve the overall tone and texture of your skin, leaving it looking youthful and radiant.
Finally, rosehip oil can help to reduce the appearance of scars and dark spots on the skin. The oil contains natural retinoids, which promote cell turnover and help to fade hyperpigmentation.
Regular use of rosehip oil can help to improve the appearance of acne scars, age spots, and other types of hyperpigmentation, leaving the skin looking clearer and more even-toned.
If you want to incorporate rosehip oil into your skincare routine, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Firstly, it is essential to choose a high-quality rosehip oil to ensure that you are getting the maximum benefits.
Secondly, you should use the oil after cleansing and toning your skin, as this will help to ensure that it is fully absorbed.
Finally, you can use rosehip oil in the morning or at night, depending on your preference and skin type.
To use rosehip oil, start by cleansing and toning your skin as usual. Then, apply a few drops of oil to your face and neck, massaging it gently into your skin until it is fully absorbed. Then apply your moisturiser.
Rosehip oil is a versatile and nourishing ingredient that is great for all skin types.
Its powerful antioxidants and essential fatty acids help to protect and hydrate the skin, while its ability to improve the texture and appearance of the skin makes it a must-have in any skincare routine.
So, if you're looking for a way to boost your skin's health and beauty, give rosehip oil a try!

]]>Simple things you can do to ensure your skin is in tip top shape for the big day you can start doing TODAY!
Wedding planning can be stressful, which is terrible for your skin, so start practising excellent skincare habits as soon as possible!
But these suggestions aren't just for brides and grooms; they also apply to wedding party members, parents, and guests!
Find a routine that is both inexpensive and effective for your skin.
Once you've established a great routine, don't tinker with it, especially as the big day approaches!
Avoid changing your topical skincare routine just days before the wedding.
Give your skin a few months to acclimate to new products, such as moisturisers, serums, or even makeup, if you're experimenting with new items.
Here is my recommended – and simple – skincare routine perfect for busy women planning their big day:
With all the dirt and grime that builds up on the skins’ surface throughout the day, cleansing is the first step of any skincare routine. I recommend a gentle cleanser to rejuvenate and replenish your skin.
If you wear makeup or sunscreen during the day, double cleansing in the evenings is a must.
And rather than using makeup wipes, which can be abrasive and drying, start your evening cleansing routine with a reusable makeup cloth, followed by a cleanse with your favourite cleanser.
Now you might be asking, what about the exfoliation you mentioned?!
I like to keep things simple and easy for myself so I combine cleansing and exfoliating and use my cleanser together with a Konjac Sponge in one step.
If you don’t know what a Konjac Sponge is… it’s the best kept secret in skincare!
Aside from clearing away dry and dead skin, a regular exfoliation habit increases the skin's radiance, clarity, and youthfulness, and that's just the start.
This helps to remove not only natural build-up of sebum and debris but also any residual makeup and any environmental toxins that collected on the skin's surface throughout the day.
Toners - like the Calming Toner from Merindah Botanicals - can make a huge difference to how your skin looks and feels after cleansing.
Their purpose is to remove everything that the cleanser leaves behind and it nourishes and replenishes your skin, refines your pores and improves the appearance of your skin.
Toner helps to smooth, soften and calm the skin and
Use twice daily (morning and night) after cleansing.
As the owner of a multi-award winning skincare brand, I often get asked if it’s ok to use toner as a face mist or spritz and my simple and straight forward answer is NO!
You’ll miss out on ALL the benefits of a toner and trust me, if you are serious about beautiful skin on your wedding day, then apply toner to a cotton pad and then wipe evenly across your face – remember to target problem areas, like your T-zone (forehead and nose) or chin.
Leave your face slightly damp for the next step - this allows your moisturiser to be more easily absorbed.
Moisturiser is a must – day and night!
Moisturisers prevent your skin from drying out, leaving your skin hydrated and smooth.
Our skin repairs itself while we sleep so don't skip moisturising at night to give your skin the best to rejuvenate overnight.
Don’t rush through your night time skin care routine—focus on your skin’s needs and give it the time it deserves so that you can wake with skin that looks rested and nourished—ready for the busy day ahead.
If you’re spending lots of time outdoors, try using a moisturiser with SPF to protect your skin from sun damage and premature ageing.
If you prefer to use the same moisturiser at night, you can always apply sunscreen on top of your moisturiser.
That way your skin gets so soak up all the nutrition the moisturiser provides.
You are what you eat. Everything you consume becomes a part of your inner being as well as the outside of your body. The more nutritious the meals you eat, the better your skin will appear.
The opposite is also true. The less we pay attention to what we put into our mouth, the more skin problems we may encounter.
So apart from eating health, what else can you do to have amazing skin on your big day?
You should consider introducing supplements into your diet. The link between gut health and great skin has been proven time and time again; if the inside of you is shining it shows on the outside.
Try Isagenix' Collagen Elixir which is specifically designed to help nourish your skin from within to create a radiant, naturally plumped complexion from the inside out.
The presence of Vitamin D aids calcium absorption, and there are minerals that promote the collagen manufacturing process. Zinc and Vitamin C are two of them.
Not only does our bottle of liquid gold contain these nutrients, but it also contains ancient beauty blends derived from Aloe Vera and Chamomile, as well as superfoods like Goji berry and Acerola berry, which are powerful antioxidants that provide further support for better outcomes.
Collagen works best when taken internally, rather than topically, where creams can only go so far!
So, what's the difference between liquid and powder collagen?
Collagen cannot be oxidised in order to be absorbed!
The Isagenix Collagen Elixir is bottled on the spot, just off the coast of Scandinavia, in 0.15 seconds and sealed to prevent oxidation!
]]>You may have noticed that more companies are marketing their products with terms like "clean" and "vegan." This is a result of customers changing their purchasing behaviours to favour ecologically friendly products.
Green beauty is a movement in the cosmetics industry towards sustainability, from ingredient sourcing to packaging. Protecting our planet's resources and inhabitants while being conscious of our decisions' effects on them is part of our commitment to it.
While more businesses are implementing eco-friendly options and attempting to strengthen their green credentials, it has been discovered that some are exaggerating how environmentally friendly their practices really are.
When purchasing cosmetic goods, many consumers now look for the ecologically friendly alternative, making it profitable for businesses to advertise that they are green even when they may not actually be. A term for this is "greenwashing."
Continue reading to find out more about what "greenwashing" is, how to avoid it, and what our organisation is doing to be sustainable.
Greenwashing is a marketing technique used by businesses to make their brand appear greener than it actually is. Companies frequently make claims using buzzwords like "clean" and "eco-friendly" without providing any supporting data.
This tactic is designed to entice environmentally conscious individuals to buy products by giving them false information. The problem with this is that it can lead consumers to make unsustainable purchases that ultimately benefit the business rather than the environment.
Consumers believe they have a shared social obligation to preserve the environment and are increasingly becoming more environmentally sensitive.
Companies can exploit this by utilising greenwashing techniques, which does more harm than good.
Because there are frequently more environmentally friendly options available, businesses who are not open and honest about their level of sustainability run the danger of losing the trust of their customers. This can hurt their reputation, brand image, and ultimately the environment.
Since many businesses are now opting for more environmentally friendly solutions, greenwashing is on the rise, which can make it challenging to identify deceptive marketing.
Tip 1: Don't let the colour green fool you
When beauty product packaging is green and displays imagery of plants and animals, it may be easy to assume that a product or brand is eco-friendly.
This might not always be the case, though.
They might be using excessively green imagery to make up for their lack of claims, leading buyers to believe that their goods are more environmentally friendly than they actually are.
Try not to base your opinion of a brand solely on its packaging to avoid falling victim to "greenwashing." Examine the brand's history to determine its sustainability.
Tip 2: Look for third party certifications
Buzzwords like "clean," "vegan," and "eco-friendly" are unregulated in the beauty industry. This means that businesses can use these words without having to provide evidence that they meet these standards.
Instead, pay attention to reputable outside auditors third party certifications to confirm whether these claims are accurate.
If a brand takes pleasure in being natural, they won't hesitate to provide the proof to support their claims in complete transparency.
Merindah Botanicals, we pride ourselves on being certified Made Safe, Toxic-free and Allergy Certified by Safe Cosmetics Australia and also certified Cruelty-free and vegan by PETA.
Tip 3: Take a closer look at the label
Here are a some terms to look out for on labels:
Dermatologically tested is a positive indicator, but it's not the only one.
When someone talks about "single" components, they're trying to entice you with that ingredient's advantages. The presence of "vegan" ingredients does not imply that the entire product is vegan.
Look for companies that make "whole" claims, such as "100% natural," rather than merely vague, generalised "organic" claims.
Manufacturers love using the phrase "naturally derived" to describe skincare products that have absolutely no resemblance to natural extracts.
Unfortunately, because this phrase is UNREGULATED, manufacturers are free to use it anyway they like without any repercussions.
Nothing makes a product more enticing than the absence of potentially cancer-causing substances like parabens and sulphates.
However, the widely used "greenwashing" strategy neglects to identify the product's actual contents.
Products with a long list of "free from" claims generally have something to hide, so be sure to take a closer look at the actual list of ingredients on the back of the packaging and don't go by face value.
I can say with absolute certainty that Merindah Botanicals has never engaged in greenwashing and never will. We never make claims about who we are not.
Our ingredients are carefully and ethically sourced.
Transparency, honesty and integrity are the cornerstones of our ethos.
Through our green chemistry process, every one of our products has been holistically designed so that:
Have you ever purchased something you initially believed to be healthy but afterwards found out that it wasn't? Tell me some of your experiences with greenwashing.
]]>Not one spot, line, imperfection, or black circle could be seen. But that is neither reasonable nor even close to reality.
Each of us is unique and lovely since we all have distinct skin types, tones, colours, and textures.
Unfortunately, skin confidence can become a problem as we get used to seeing flawless skin flaunted everywhere, from our favourite movies to the magazine covers.
At Merindah Botanicals want to support you on your path to skin confidence. While it may be tough to notice for yourself, everyone around you will be able to tell that everyone's skin is just as beautiful as the next person's.
Skin confidence is the state of being comfortable, attractive, and powerful in one's own skin. This does not imply that you should love your skin because it is flawless but rather because it is yours. The phrase "good hair days" is well-known, but what about "good skin days"?
Whatever your definition of "good skin" may be, you already know that you'll feel good when your skin is at its finest. We all have varied ideas of what "good skin" can look like. We want you to feel this way every day.
Building self-confidence may be a personal process that requires a lot of time, effort, and self-love, whether it is in relation to your skin, physique, or just yourself in general.
There are a few popular places to start when starting your road towards confidence, such as daily affirmations and nurturing beauty rituals. Whatever path you choose, it's critical to keep in mind that your skin is lovely, regardless of what you consider to be attractive.
The way we talk to ourselves is one of the most powerful tools we have for changing our habits, yet so few of us take the time to just stop and listen to our default internal soundtrack.
Being able to inspire oneself constantly means that you can perhaps become your own cheerleader. Obviously, it's easier said than done, which is the issue.
We frequently talk to ourselves in ways we'd never dream of saying to a stranger, much less someone we care about, want to inspire, and hope the best for.
Examples include when we're criticising our complexion in the mirror or when we hastily send an angry email that we later regret. Not only do we not deserve this, but it also contributes to harmful "all or nothing" thinking and doesn't help us develop the resilience needed to form new behaviours.
A pen and paper (or even just the "notes" feature on your phone) are all that are needed for one activity that can be very effective in battling negative self-talk. The person you love the most in the world should be listed first. Next, assume that they've come to you and complained that it's difficult for them to stick with a behaviour change.
Then, list all the things you would say to them to help them feel confident and deserving of attaining their most important goals. Last but not least, cross out their name and insert your own.
Slow beauty rituals can help you make sustainable decisions while allowing you to spend more time getting to know your skin and enjoying the mindfulness of skincare.
To start any slow beauty journey off right, it is advisable to opt for products that are manufactured with natural components.
Our ancestors have been using natural ingredients on their skin for centuries, and there is one simple reason why. Because they work! Nature knows best when it comes to caring for your skin, rather than a short lived trend that uses mass produced products.
Slow beauty products focus on enhancing your skin's natural functions, such as cell turnover, so the effects of the product are visible for a considerable amount of time after application.
As a result, it's critical to maintain your schedule so that your products have time to do their job. If you're hopping on a short-lived fad, you won't be able to commit to using a new product for at least 28 days in order to truly notice the benefits.
You can use affirmations to boost your confidence and get rid of any unfavourable ideas or feelings by repeating them to yourself.
Positive reinforcement can occur when you repeat these thoughts to yourself and start to believe what you are saying.
Pick three things you like about yourself when you look in the mirror if you are feeling self-conscious about the appearance of your skin.
It can be anything, such as the way your freckles appear whenever the sun shines, the way your gentle laugh lines bring back fond memories of times spent with loved ones, or the way your eyes gleam when you think about some of your favourite things.
Make these your daily mantras and say them out to yourself every day. Why not do it while you indulge in a slow and nurturing beauty routine?

In fact, you'll start to see the advantages of smoother skin and less fine lines within just a few days.
But, the advantages come with some unsettling side effects that have caused us to rethink utilising retinol creams and treatments.
In the past, a prescription was needed to buy creams containing retinoids, but nowadays it's so simple to find skincare products containing retinol that editors, influencers, and beauty enthusiasts are hopping on board and promoting its use!
However, several dermatologists, skincare enthusiasts, and those who have encountered retinol's negative consequences advise against its broad use.
Understanding why retinol produces such dramatic anti-ageing outcomes is crucial in understanding why it is not the miracle skincare product we think it is.
Retinol promotes the division of basal cells, which are located in the skin's lowest layer. As a result, more new epidermal cells are produced, which move towards the skin's surface and eventually develop into the top layer of skin.
The more retinol applied to the skin, the more of these fresh cells show up on the surface, causing the skin to exfoliate.
Skin barrier is compromised because skin cells are created improperly when they are compelled to proliferate quickly. This indicates that they are unable to create the lipids (fats) needed to appropriately shield the skin from the elements.
As a result, the skin barrier thins out and is more vulnerable to injury from both internal and external sources, which eventually speeds up the ageing process.
Ultra-sensitive skin and redness result from a compromised skin barrier. The skin's outer layer has been damaged, making it more vulnerable to irritation.
Increased propensity for hyperpigmentation - Weak skin's top layer makes it more vulnerable to UV rays.
As a result, pigmentation may cause significant problems. While sunscreen can help protect our skin from UV rays to some level, it is often insufficient, and using retinol will cause dark patches to develop on the skin.
Skin cells can only duplicate a certain number of times. If you apply excessive amounts of retinol in your 20s, 30s, and 40s, you risk using up all the healthy cell divisions that you should be conserving for cell divisions later in your lifespan.
Marketers want us to buy retinol for daily use, but without studies on the long-term adverse effects, we really need to be more cautious.
We don't really know the implications of chronic retinol use.
The use of retinol during pregnancy has been linked to birth defects.
Additionally, it may worsen pigmentation, which is a problem during pregnancy due to an increase in hormones linked to dark patches, therefore, use is not advised when pregnant.
I am so happy that I can recommend a product that is as effective as retinol but without the side effects.
Rosehip oil works similarly to retinol in that it boosts collagen formation and skin suppleness, reducing fine lines and enhancing skin hydration and elasticity.
While bakuchiol oil may be preferred by those looking for a more natural yet effective alternative to retinol, it actually doesn’t contain vitamin A.
So consequently, bakuchiol oil simply can’t achieve the same results as rosehip oil.
Rosehip oil contains Beta-carotene (provitamin A), fatty acids, and a small amount of retinoic acid are all found in rosehip oil.
Here are some benefits of rosehip oil as a natural retinol over bakuchiol oil and why you should be using rosehip oil instead of retinol.
- It's a natural source of antioxidants
Rosehip oil contains vitamin E which is one of the best antioxidants for the skin. Additionally, it also contains other carotenoid antioxidants like lycopene, beta-cryptoxanthin, rubixanthin, zeaxanthin and lutein.
- It's rich in unsaturated fatty acids
Fatty acids are soothing to irritated skin because of their strong anti-inflammatory effects.
An omega-3 fatty acid called linolenic acid, an omega-6 linoleic acid, and a 14–20% oleic acid are all found in rosehip (an omega-9).
- Antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory
Some of the rosehip oil's antioxidants, like phenols, are also known to have antibacterial properties. The oil's anti-inflammatory qualities are also attributed to the high fatty acid content.
- Supports cell turnover and collagen production
Rosehip oil promotes collagen synthesis and skin rejuvenation because it contains beta-carotene, a provitamin A. This makes it beneficial for conditions like stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and wrinkles.
- Supports healthy skin barrier function
Rosehip oil aids in retaining moisture and preventing water loss since it contains a substantial amount of linoleic acid.
- Gentle enough for under eye care
I use rosehip oil almost daily and find it to be quite calming for the region around the eyes. It aids in gently smoothing and brightening the area's fragile skin and is great for fine lines and wrinkles.
As you can see, Rosehip oil has many amazing benefits and uses. It's also great for skin that is prone to acne and other blemishes.
And even though it appears contradictory to use an oil to treat "oily skin" issues, acne sufferers can benefit greatly from Rosehip oil's high content of omega-6 fatty acids, often known as linoleic acid.
Due to its high vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, and K concentrations, rosehip oil has also been demonstrated to aid in skin regeneration and healing, making it a fantastic choice for minimising surgical scars.
Those with sensitive skin, as well as those who are pregnant or nursing, can use rosehip oil because it is not harsh on the skin.

]]>Hundreds of cosmetic products promise all kinds of things if you walk down the aisles of any drugstore.
The issue is that anything we put on our skin is absorbed by our body.
Ordinary skin care products are frequently loaded with substances that we would never put in our bodies if we were eating them.
Making the switch to all-natural skin care means utilising products that are good for your skin, your body, and the environment.
Here are a few things that helped me make the transition:
1. Be patient
There's always a period of adjustment when you drastically alter your skin care routine.
When you initially switch, you might notice some variations, such as your skin being a little oilier than usual. Perhaps it's drier.
The good news is that we are adaptable beings. We've grown accustomed to putting chemicals on our skin and can adjust to natural elements as well.
When we move to simpler, more natural components, our bodies can occasionally react strangely as they re-establish their natural equilibrium.
Rather than interpreting this as an indication that your skin doesn't "enjoy" the new products, give it a few weeks. Allow your body to re-establish its natural equilibrium.
2. Remind yourself of your connection to the earth
Stopping the use of synthetic products has a major influence not only on your body, but also on our planet.
Our oceans, streams, creatures, and the air we all breathe are all affected. Making the switch to all-natural substances is a gift not only to oneself, but also to the rest of the world.
When you're going through a difficult shift, it might be helpful to remind yourself why the transition is beneficial not only to you, but also to others.
3. Experiment to see what works best
If the initial all-natural items don't work for you, you may have to try a few more before finding something you like.
For example, the Merindah Botanicals face and body care products are made from all-natural ingredients. Our products contain Australian botanical extracts that soften, nourish and care for your skin.
Experiment with several natural products until you find ones you enjoy. It will benefit both your skin and the environment.
Did you know that knowing your skin type is crucial in determining which products would be the most beneficial?
Using the wrong products can actually make your skin worse than improving your skin in the first place.

Over time, without the opportunity to rest and recover, your system will start objecting.
Find out why selfcare is more important than you think and why you should rest properly.
]]>The methods are limited only by my imagination. The important factor that I’ve discovered over time is that the methods that I choose to take care of myself need to work for me.
And the ones I choose aren’t going to necessarily work for everyone else in the world. And that’s ok.
I haven’t always been good at taking care of me. I’m a giver. I enjoy helping others and find satisfaction in doing so. I get so good at giving that I often lose myself in it.
I give so much that I don’t always recognise when I need to take a break from it, and then I end up feeling depleted, lost and overloaded.
And sometimes I push to give more, because I feel like it’s my duty to help. Feeling depleted doesn’t just come from helping though.
We live in a modern world where much is expected of us. In our western culture we have many responsibilities – earning a living, taking care of family, spending time socialising, contributing to clubs, hobbies and churches, for example.
And we often find ourselves super busy in a fast-paced world where everything around us tells us we’re supposed to keep pushing to achieve more.
We’re taught that if we don’t push and achieve, we will miss out on the most important things in life – happiness, love, family. We’re taught that if we take a break we aren’t good enough. T
hat if we loosen the reins we’ll never amount to anything.
So we keep pushing, because we fear the consequences. We keep pushing because we doubt our ability to be a person worthy of the good things life has to offer.
We keep pushing because we are programmed through a lifetime of rules, that this is the way it’s supposed to be. And who are we to question it?
But here’s the issue.
Your body is designed to operate in homeostasis, or balance.
Your body’s nervous system has 2 key parts; the Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) and the Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS).
The sympathetic nervous system is responsible for getting the body ready for action.
When we are stressed for example, or when we are in danger, the SNS sends the signals to make your heart beat faster, your breathing accelerate and it sends specific hormones (chemical signals) to your limbs to give you extra strength, amongst other things.
The parasympathetic nervous system reverses that process to promote rest and recovery. It will lower the heart rate, slow the breathing and allow the muscles in your limbs to relax. The two parts of the system work in tandem to keep you in balance.
The SNS is responsible for activation and action, while the PNS is responsible for rest and recovery.
Your body is designed to put in bursts of work, placing stress on your system, before taking time to recover and return to its optimally balanced state. It’s what you do every time you do a workout, when you cope with a crisis, or any every-day life activity.
Even normal bodily functions like eating and digesting place stress on your body.
If you’re like most of us, as you go through the average day you will find yourself preparing food, meeting friends for social activities, going to work, attending family events, running errands, playing sports, managing finances, contributing to charity or church events, helping and supporting your friends through rough patches, cleaning the house and so on.
When you have to add in extra tasks (for example, dealing with crises), you push your system to take on a greater load. And when you have a routine that looks like this (or a variation of it) day after day, week after week, year after year, you train your body to live in activation mode – in other words, stress.
Your body is smart!
The human body is programmed for survival. If it’s pushed for long periods, it will adjust and your standard state of stress will become its new normal. And the new normal can last for a long time.
But by doing so you don’t allow your parasympathetic nervous system to do its job properly.
Over time, without the opportunity to rest and recover, your system will start objecting. It will let you know when it needs recovery time, but if you’re caught up in the cycle of pushing and achieving, you may not notice the signals it’s providing to you. Not at first anyway.
Your body’s inbuilt programming of operating in homeostasis will catch up to you eventually. It always does. It will win the argument every single time. Trust me, I found out the hard way.
Your body will show you what it needs; it will give you some twinges, some aches and pains and a few tears. If you don’t listen and give it what it’s asking for, it will get a little louder.
The twinges will turn into consistent pain, crying jags and minor accidents. And if you still choose not to listen, it will hit you with broken bones, major illnesses or emotional breakdowns.
You’ll feel like you’ve been hit by a truck. When your body tells you what it needs, learn to speak its language.
When you honour its messages you will create a space for it to engage the parasympathetic nervous system and heal itself. Remember when I said the body is smart?
The language of your body is unique. It’s different to every other body on the planet.
When you speak it, hear it and act on it, you tap into a powerful method to create conscious awareness and a space where it can return to homeostasis and its optimal functioning.
When you take this time, it may feel like you’re wasting the day away (you could easily be more productive, right?), you may feel antsy and restless.
This is the body “coming down” from the drug high it’s been on. A drug high of stress hormones named adrenaline and cortisol. I encourage you to gather your resources – explore the unlimited ways that you can take care of you – create your own resource guide of your unique self-care practises.
And then prioritise them over everything else in your life. Every. Single. Day. When you can do that, I promise you, your mind, body and spirit will thank you.
After all, you deserve to be taken care of equally as much as the other 7+ billion people on the planet. Simply because you exist.
How often do you listen to your body and slow down when it's telling you to rest?

]]>Aromatherapy, also known as Essential Oil therapy, is the science and art of using natural oils and aroma compounds within plant material to alter and promote harmony, balance and health within the body, mind, and spirit.
Aromatherapy seeks to link physiological, psychological, and spiritual processes together in order to improve natural healing processes.
Some people choose to use Aromatherapy in addition to standard medical treatment, while others use Aromatherapy as an alternative to current medicine.*
Where medications and the like are used by doctors and other healthcare providers, essential oils are used in the same way by Aromatherapists.
Essential oils come from various parts of the plant kingdom such as flowers, herbs, citrus peel, bark, trees and leaves.
They are referred to as essential oils once they are distilled.
Citrus oils, however, are actually referred to as essences.
In Aromatherapy, essential oils can be applied in three ways:
If you are a beginner, who is just getting acquainted with Aromatherapy, the following is a small sample of the much larger list of benefits it can provide.
If you suddenly find yourself feeling down or depressed for no apparent reason, you can use Aromatherapy to get yourself feeling happier again. Diffusing essential oils, specifically those that are known to be uplifting and energising, like blends of citrus can uplift your mood.
Diffusing citrus scents in your home or work space can help combat the Monday blues and make days you are stuck indoors much more enjoyable. Nothing seems to be helping that cold or flu?
Did you know there are many essential oils that are naturally antiviral and antibacterial?
The regular but safe use of essential oils can keep your immune system healthy. It can help to ward off all sorts of microscopic nasties such as bacteria, microbes, and viruses.
Oil burners in winter are a great way to help your immune system fight colds.
Diffusing essential oils can help to get rid of the stuffy odours within your home. Especially in winter when it's too cold to open the windows. Lemon is excellent in ridding a house full of smoke, so next time you're using a fireplace, make use of your lemon oils.

]]>Certain diets, especially those high in fats and carbohydrates, can aggravate pre-existing skin diseases like eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea as well as cause new ones, like hormonal acne.
Therefore, it is crucial to look at the food on our plates and determine what changes we can make to nourish dull and sensitive skin.
At Merindah Botanicals, we believe in using natural and organic ingredients in our skincare products but also in the food we consume.
By doing so, we can then address the underlying causes of our skin issues and adopt a greener lifestyle that is good for both our bodies and our skin.
Everything you need to know about how nutrition can effect your skin and what you can do to adjust your diet to have glowing skin is covered in this guide.
An unhealthy diet that is high in fat, sugar, salt, and processed foods is likely to irritate and inflame the skin. This occurs as a result of their lack of essential nutrients.
Your body and skin can acquire all the nutrients and benefits they require to rebuild the skin's barrier when it is damaged by eating a balanced and healthy diet.
This aids in lowering inflammation for skin types prone to acne and slows the ageing process, giving you healthy-looking skin.
This section has been divided down to show you how salt, sugar, and fats affect the health of your skin.
Your skin's elasticity can be impacted by a high-sugar diet.
The collagen structures that give your skin its suppleness can get weakened by high sugar intake that exceeds what your body's natural insulin can handle.
Your skin may appear duller than usual, lose its suppleness, and develop more fine lines and wrinkles as a result.
When you consume a lot of sodium, your body may begin to show signs of dehydration and a lack of water.
This could result in dry, flaky patches of skin on your face that don't seem to go away no matter how much moisturiser you apply!
It may also be a result of a salty diet if you wake up in the morning with puffy eyes and slight facial puffiness.
The skin under and around your eyes is delicate and thin and sodium retains water so the effects are more obvious in this area.
You should reduce the intake of salty foods in your diet if you have dry skin on your body, have eczema or suffer from other underlying skin conditions.
This will help with reducing the swelling and inflammation, allowing you to get healthier skin.
Not all fats are bad fats. Foods like avocados provide us with significant levels of beneficial fatty acids that support the health of our hearts.
These are referred to as unsaturated fats and are frequently present in many plants and vegetables.
Many types of meat and cheese naturally contain saturated fats. However, consuming too much saturated fats might raise cholesterol levels.
This increases your risk of heart disease and makes your arteries more likely to become blocked in terms of your body.
High saturated fats will also cause an increase in insulin hormones, which in turn causes an increase in sex hormones. This will result in your skin producing more sebum, which could exacerbate any acne you already have.
Leaner meat choices and less dairy in your diet can help your body function better overall and lessen acne on your skin.
Premature skin ageing can result from consuming too much alcohol.
This is due to the fact that alcohol can promote dehydration and exacerbate issues with dry skin. Your skin could appear lifeless and lacklustre.
Alcohol that also contains a lot of sugar raises insulin levels and encourages unhealthful skin irritation like acne.
Your hangover skin could feel dry, more red than usual, and puffy skin around the eyes.
A step towards a balanced diet is reducing your alcohol intake or choosing healthier alcohol options.
One way to get healthy, glowing skin is by eating a well-balanced diet.
However, there are a lot of other things that might affect how your skin looks, like environmental stressors, smoking, and hormonal imbalances.
Even though eating the right foods for better skin may not entirely clear up acne or texture, you may notice significant improvements over time.
It is the beginning of a better and more environmentally friendly lifestyle, albeit it is not the goal in and of itself.
Your skin may stay hydrated by just adjusting your diet, which will give it a more moisturised glow. Here are six meals for beauty that will maintain your beautiful skin hydrated and well-nourished from the inside out.
Unsure of where to begin in your quest for a dazzling glow?
Try incorporating some of our food suggestions into your diet if you want to achieve that healthy glow.
Many people underestimate the benefits of drinking water for your skin as well as your general health.
Now before you jump to a conclusion saying my skin has always been sensitive let me tell you how it becomes a sensitive skin condition.
So, how to know if you have sensitive skin and what are the main contributors that make skin become sensitive or sensitised?
1. Stress, stress plays such an important part in our skin health. Stress triggers the hormone cortisol which stimulates heart rate and blood pressure and the blood to the skin, causing inflammation.
2. Gut health, the gut is a major contributor to the skin poor gut health irritates the skin, sending signals like eczema, dermatitis, acne, psoriasis. That internally it is out of balance. Alcohol, antibiotics, poor food choices and constipation will make skin conditions more exacerbated.
3. Underlying health condition. Certain medications can make the skin thinner, and more sensitive.
4. Stripping the skin of natural oils. So many people show with stripped skins. Usually resulting from using common soap products, or foaming agents, which may strip the skin from natural oils which it is supposed to produce. A natural amount of oil protects the skin surface.
5. Over exfoliation. Especially people with dry surface skin cells tend to over scrub, use Retinols or glycolic or salicylic acid ingredients.
6. Using hot or cold water directly to the face. The hotter the water, (if water is chlorinated) activates and accelerates chlorine reaction. Chlorine is very drying and stripping to skin.
Do not put your head under the blast of water from the shower, its like thumping the skin with chlorine. Not a good choice. Cold water also makes the skin more sensitised, stimulating excessive blood flow.
7. The hammering of the water - from direct application to the skin - stimulates the capillary walls, which can easily cause thinning and damage to the capillary wall bringing excess redness and blood flow to the surface.
8. Certain makeups which have high pigment for colour can easily cause the skin to become more sensitive.
9. Removing makeup with makeup wipes that contain alcohol. Yes, these cheap wipes strip your skin and do not clean the skin cells. Use a reusable makeup cloth like the one from Merindah Botanicals instead.
10. Not cleansing correctly at night with a gentle cleanser.
11. Correct diagnosis of your skin when you have sensitive skin is vital.
12. A well-trained skin therapist will analysis under a wood lamp or skin scanner to assess what products or treatments will soothe a sensitive skin.
13. Certain skin can become more sensitive due to the use of things like washing detergents, fabric softeners. These contain chemicals that can irritate skins.
14. Hormonal issues can cause a skin to become more sensitised. Prior to periods, or during pregnancy you may notice skin to become more sensitive due to blood flow and hormonal stimulation.
15. When looking at the skin, ask the question? Is it a true sensitive skin or is it sensitised?
16. Low immunity - which may bring problems to skin health - will bring sensitivity to many skins.
17. Picking and squeezing skin causes inflammation and skin sensitivity, can break capillary walls and stimulate infection, avoid this as much as possible.
18. Avoid using artificial scrubbing cloths, such as skin buffing balls, or skin cleaning units that use plastic and synthetic motorised or handheld deep cleansing scrubbers.
Skin can be come sensitive, but with correct skin care, good health, and avoiding over- stimulation of the skin, usually the skin will start to calm down.
Skin has minimum of 30 days turn over, so do not expect your skin to settle immediately, as your skin must recover.
To strengthen the skin cells, start by adding the pith of the orange to your daily diet. It contains bioflavonoids that help strength capillaries and also increases Vitamin C absorption.
Remember the skin is the largest organ of the body and protects us from so much.
So, treat your skin gently like a baby’s skin, to get the best from all those new skin cells coming through. Avoid using soap, and anti-ageing ingredients that may make your skin more irritated and use a gentle skincare range suitable for sensitive skin like Merindah Botanicals' range for natural face and body care products.
For extreme conditions please see a doctor or medical professional.

]]>This ultimate guide will tell you everything you need to know about hand hygiene and the difference between hand sanitiser and hand wash so you can keep your hands clean and healthy!
When hand washing is not an option, hand sanitizers - typically alcohol-based gels - are used to destroy bacteria and viruses on the hands.
More than ever, we are advised to use them to keep ourselves safe throughout the day by keeping them with us at all times.
Washing your hands with soap and running water is the only method to safely clean your hands. Hand washing with soap causes the viral cells on our skin to become loose and washes them away completely, unlike sanitising gels which seek to kill the virus or bacteria.
The best chance of getting rid of every last trace is to wash your hands for the whole 20 seconds.
Here at Merindah Botanicals, we love using our very gentle and hydrating hand and body wash because - as the name says - it's hydrating and doesn't strip your skin of its natural oils.
Truthfully? Sometimes.
A sanitising gel is crucial when there are no facilities for hand washing, such as while you're out and about.
While there are some viruses that hand sanitizers cannot eradicate, we know that they are efficient against Covid-19.
This is due to the fact that this particular virus is surrounded by a casing that can be penetrated by alcohol (the main ingredient in sanitising gels).
The amount of alcohol present is crucial in this case. Most viruses, including the coronavirus, must have an alcohol level of at least 60% in order to be killed.
The quantity you use is important as well; there should be enough gel for it to take 20 seconds to rub it all over your hands and fingers until they are completely dry.
This will depend on how often you use it and the ingredients of the hand sanitiser.
It's crucial to protect hands from further damage if they do get dry or chapped in addition to soothing them.
